Land of emotion and stone.Birthplace of the lords of Barbençon, the village was known for its glassmaking and marblework, as shown by one of the most typical streets: Rue des Marbriers. Along with the church and presbytery, it's a key part of Barbençon's heritage and lined with historic houses.

Birthplace of the lords of Barbençon, the village was known for its glassmaking and marblework, as shown by one of the most typical streets: Rue des Marbriers. Along with the church and presbytery, it's a key part of Barbençon's heritage and lined with historic houses.

The Gothic and Renaissance Saint Lambert Church underwent significant restoration from 1967 to 1975. The tower was built in 1720 on 16th-century foundations. The south-facing arched portal is topped with a stone bearing the "de Ligne" coat of arms and its motto "Tant que dure". The church interior illustrates Barbençon's rich past: monumental masonry by master glassmakers and marblers, main altar, baptismal font… The rood screen supports an organ restored around 1900. Below the old ramparts is Barbençon Lake, a popular holiday spot with a welcoming seating area. Step back a few centuries to explore the historic farms: Jette Feuille and its 17th-century towers, La Bouverie and La Perruque, outbuildings of the old château… And for the folklore, come and see the firework display on the Sunday after Shrove Tuesday. Fun and excitement guaranteed! Whether you're on foot, horseback or bike, simply follow the signposted paths and trails!
